Pedestrian Killed Crossing Road Against the Light

A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle on Sunday night as she attempted to cross State Road 436 near Pershing Avenue, against the traffic light.

According to Orlando Police:

A 1993 Buick driven by Emilio Alfaro-Estremera, 51, of Orlando was traveling north on State Road 436 (S. Semoran Boulevard) around 10:30 pm, in the left thru lane approaching the intersection of Pershing Avenue.  Sandra Burroughs Thomas, 61, of Fairfax Street, Orlando, attempted to cross south Semoran Boulevard at Pershing Avenue, westbound.

Alfaro-Estremera, along with several witnesses, indicated he attempted to travel north through the intersection on a green traffic signal. Thomas began to cross against the traffic light.  The right front of the Buick struck Thomas who was pronounced dead at the scene.

OPD said that no charges will be filed against Alfro-Estremera.

Thomas’ death is the 16th traffic homicide in Orlando and the 5th pedestrian fatality, to date.
