Pedestrian Dies, Another Critical After Being Struck by Car

One of two pedestrians struck on Tuesday has died, while the other remains in critical condition, Orlando police said.

31-year-old Shane Nicole Trevino died after being hit by a vehicle traveling eastbound in the 700 block of west Colonial Drive.

The crash occurred just after 4:30 p.m.

Police said, 20-year-old Steven Duran Maroney, who was driving a Hyundai Tiburon, veered off to the left, as he drove in the left thru lane.

Maroney continued across the northbound lanes and onto the north sidewalk, striking Trevino and an unnamed pedestrian who were standing on the sidewalk by the LYNX bus stop located on the north side of the road. He continued east through a concrete curbed planter and pulled off onto Seminole Avenue.

Trevino and the other pedestrian were transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center.  Trevino succumbed to her injuries.

The other pedestrian remains in critical condition.

Police said, charged are pending against Maroney.

  1. can someone please help me understand why a toxicology was not done on someone with a record of past cocaine, marijuana & DUI charges? This guy was also on felony probation at the time of the accident. Reports say witnesses made him get out of the car & sat down on the curb, he was trying to leave the scene. He told witnesses he did not realize he had hit anyone. My daughter’s head shattered his windshield (right in front of his face.) Seems to me if you don’t realize you just ran over 2 people, you just might be under the influence of “something”.
