Passenger Killed in High Speed Orange County Crash, Driver Injured

Troopers continue to investigate a high speed single-vehicle crash in east Orange County Thursday morning, that left one person dead and the driver with serious injuries.

A 2012 Acura was heading westbound on Cypress Springs Parkway, just after 8:00 a.m., at a high rate, when the driver, 35-year-old Travis Fullencamp lost control, FHP said.

The vehicle crossed into the eastbound lanes, struck a tree and overturned several times and hit a light pole. The Acura came to a final stop against a house at 1937 Stone Crest Court, troopers said.

Troopers also said, debris from the crash landed on the roof of the home and other bits traveled over the house, landing on a neighboring residence.

When the dust settled, 39-year-old Melanie Chapin, a passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead on the spot.

Chapin’s 6-year-old daughter, who was also in the vehicle was not injured, but was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital to be checked out.

Fullencamp suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Two occupants who were the home on Stone Crest Court were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, FHP said.
