Parramore Mothers Honored

The Parramore community on Saturday came together for the first time to celebrate the mothers of their neighborhood at the inaugural Parramore Kidz Zone’s Baby Institute Mother’s Day Luncheon: “Moms Improving and Moving Towards Excellence.”

The event honored 50 mothers who reside in the Parramore community.

Attendees received educational materials, learned about the Parramore Kidz Zone’s Baby Institute and explored personal development strategies. They were also treated to a fashion show and a healthy meal.

Two Parramore elders and community icons – Mercerdese Clark and Eveline Biggham – were honored as “Mothers of the Year.”

The Parramore Kidz Zone’s Baby Institute is a joint partnership with the City of Orlando, Early Learning Coalition of Orange County, Nap Ford Community School and University of Central Florida.

Parramore Kidz Zone is modeled after the Harlem Children’s Zone.  Parramore Kidz Zone employs creative outreach to engage a critical mass of Parramore’s children and link them to positive opportunities, including pre-kindergarten education, parenting education, health care, mentoring, tutoring and constructive activities when school is out.

The function was held at the John H. Jackson Community Center in Parramore.    Several individuals and organizations were present including, Judge Faye Allen, Pastor Riva Tims, Community Coordinated Care for Children 4C, Disney Volunteers, Early Learning Coalition of Orange County, Orange County Healthy Start and City of Orlando’s Families, Parks and Recreation Department.
