Parks and Recreation’s Free After School Program Has Availability for More Students

The Parks and Recreation Department, which offers an After School Program at 24 recreation and community centers across Tampa, has room for additional students for the 2024-25 school year.

“The After School Program is a fantastic free resource for all families,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Regina McBride Smith, who oversees activities at 16 centers, including Cyrus Greene. “Each student will need a Rec Card, which is $15 a year per student.”

The After School Program offers homework assistance, computer labs with WiFi access, arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games and activities, and sports for kids 5-12 years old.

Many centers also have programming for students 13-17; parents should call the centers to ask about availability. Teen Rec Cards are free.

Some specialized programs after school require an additional fee, according to city officials.

More than 1,200 children 5-12 were already registered as of last week.
