District 2 City Commissioner Tony Ortiz will join other community leaders, residents, businesses and property owners of the Semoran neighborhood to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new community wall to be constructed along the west side of Semoran Boulevard between Andora Street and Casablanca Lane on Friday, March 18 at 10 a.m.
The new concrete block wall will greatly enhance the appearance of the Semoran Boulevard business district and reduce traffic noise and provide better security for Semoran neighborhood residents. Construction is expected to be complete in July 2011.
The construction of the community wall is one of the goals outlined in the recently completed vision plan for the area. The Semoran Boulevard Vision Plan, developed under Commissioner Ortiz’s leadership, is a long-term guide for future development and improvements in the area. Through the vision plan process, the City has engaged the entire Semoran neighborhood to shape the community’s future, revitalization efforts and positioning it for future development. The area includes Semoran Boulevard from Grant Street to Banco Popular on the North side of the 408 Expressway.
