A 25-year-old Orlando woman died on the spot, after being struck by a car and run over by four other vehicles, while attempting to cross I-4 on Tuesday morning.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) officials say, the woman, for an unknown reason reason, was crossing in the eastbound travel lanes on Interstate 4, near 108 Mile Mark, Volusia County when she was struck around 12:30 a.m., by a Chevy Silverrod driven by 51-year-old Delfino Gomez, Jr. of South Carolina.
The woman, who landed in the center lane, was then run over by four vehicles–a Jeep Cherokee, freight semi, Acura Integra, and Toyota Corolla, as drivers were unable to see her in the roadway. The woman died on the spot.
The drivers of the vehicles, 28-year-old Brandon J. Hall (Jeep Cherokee); Christopher W. Cadwell, 40, (freight semi); 34-year-old Elizabeth A. Escobar (Acura Integra); and Christopher M. Gowan, 37, (Toyota Corolla), of Deltona–all sustained no injuries.
Troopers say, toxicology results are being awaited to determine if alcohol played a role in the initial crash.
FHP has not released the name of the woman, pending notification of next of kin.
