Orlando Woman Killed After Mercedes goes Over Embankment into Pond

An Orlando female driver died in a crash on Thursday morning after her car careened off the road and over an embankment ending up in a pond, Florida Highway Patrol said.

38-year-old Aurilis Hernandez Rivera, of Orlando, was pronounced dead on the scene, after her vehicle traveled through the center median on State Road 520 near Nova Road, and into westbound lanes.  Rivera was heading eastbound on SR 520 just after 7:00 am.

Troopers said, after Hernandez Rivera’s 2001 Mercedes crossed the center median into the westbound lanes, the vehicle left the roadway, traveled down an embankment and overturned into a pond.

Other drivers who saw the crash, jumped into the water and pulled Hernandez Rivera from her Mercedes.

Hernandez Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical examiner.

Toxicology results are being awaited to determine whether or not alcohol played a role in the crash.

Hernandez Rivera was wearing a seat-belt at the time of the crash.
