Orange County deputies shot and killed a pit bull earlier today, not before the dog bit a kid in the face and charged at the deputies.
On February 8, 2010 at approximately 10:29 AM the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a 9-1-1 call from 2716 Coral Reef Drive in reference to a dog bite.
Deputies responded to the scene and found that a 3-year-old boy was bitten in the face by a pit-bull. A witness on scene told deputies that the child was playing in the backyard with his father, when the pit-bull came charging and bit the child in the face. The father of the child suffered minor injuries while attempting to protect his son. The child was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Deputies tried to corner the dog while waiting for animal services to respond; however, the dog charged at the deputies and they responded by fatally shooting the dog.
Animal Services arrived on scene and took possession of the deceased animal. The dog had no identifying tag and no one has come forth to claim him.
