A multi-million dollar wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against Orange Lake Resort in Orlando by the family of an 11-year-old girl who was electrocuted in June. The lawsuit is in excess of $27 million, according to news reports.
Ashton Jojo, who had just turned 11 years on June 22, was electrocuted on June 27, when she fell into a pond at the hotel while attempted to retrieve one of her golf balls. Ashton and her family were visiting Orlando from New York.
According to wdbo.com, the family’s Miami-based attorney, Ira Leesfield said, the resort didn’t hire a certified electrical contractor nor were the correct permits obtained to replace aging equipment in the pond.
At the time of the tragedy, there were news reports that electrical breakers were not properly placed in the pond and there were reports of code violations.
The Orange Lake Resort is located at 8505 West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee.
The issue with the mini gulf pond had been reported by former and currently employees of the golf and grounds department at orange lake resorts in different occasions prior to the accident.
