An Orlando police officer shot and killed a man during a traffic stop on Thorpe Avenue early on Tuesday morning.
The vehicle that was stopped on Thorpe Avenue was fleeing an attempted traffic stop by another police officer near Orange Blossom Trail and Colonial Drive.
After a local broadcast, a police officer stopped the vehicle on Thorpe Avenue and Wentwood Avenue around 6:00 a.m. As he approached the driver, the man attempted to run him over and struck the officer’s patrol car.
The police officer discharged his firearm, killing the driver on the spot.
As is standard procedure, the officer has been place on administration leave.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting an investigation into the officer involved shooting.
The names of the police officer involved and the victim have not been released.
