Man Arrested for Running Down Police Officer with Car

A man who tried to run down an Orlando police officer after he was stopped while fleeing from a 75-vehicle street racing scene, early on Wednesday morning, has been arrested.

According to OPD, about 12:20 am, on Wednesday morning officers were dispatched to Lee Vista and State Road 417 in connection with street racing in the area. Police said that there were approximately 75 cars in the area.

Two vehicles were stopped by two police officers. One of the police officers open fire on one of the vehicles, after the driver intentionally struck a police while fleeing the scene.   The suspect vehicle and the driver were subsequently located and taken into custody.

The suspect has been identified as Michel P. Lee, 24 years.

The officer, Rodney Vance sustained minor injuries.   Lee was not hurt in the shooting incident.

As is customary, Officer Vance who was involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, pending an internal investigation of the incident.
