The Orlando Police Department recently launched the 2012 Summer Crime Initiative, the third year in a row wherein OPD will utilize an “all hands on deck” approach.
The Summer Crime Initiative aims to boost police presence in all City of Orlando neighborhoods, with the view to combating violent crime and property crime, particularly during the summer months.
“The Summer Crime Initiative sends a clear message to criminals that if they commit crimes in our community, the Orlando Police Department is going to catch them,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “Through initiatives like this, the City of Orlando continues to be relentless in our efforts to keep Orlando safe and keep crime out of our neighborhoods.”
Through the Summer Crime Initiative, in addition to the daily patrols, the Orlando Police Department is adding specialized resources to target areas of increased criminal activity. All Orlando Police Department personnel, from every specialized unit, of every rank, to include Chief Rooney will spend time both day and night patrolling. This added police presence is designed to deter and prevent crime, as well as apprehend those who commit crimes.
“This initiative is a concentrated effort by members of the Orlando Police Department along with the members and residents of the community,” said Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney. “I am asking every citizen to pick up the phone and call us if they see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary.”
