Chief Eric Smith and the Orlando Police Recruiting Unit recently hosted the first women recruitment event at OPD’s Training Facility. A packed house of future women in law enforcement had the opportunity to get to ask women leadership from OPD agency questions.
They were able to get advice on the hiring process, learn about the various opportunities of growth the Orlando Police Department has to offer, and gained insight into what it is like being an Orlando police officer. With over 90 registered, OPD had a packed room of potential recruits.
The Orlando Police Department signed up for the 30 by 30 initiative after Chief Smith outlined one of his priorities when he took office was to hire a diverse force that reflects the community OPD serves. It is OPD’s goal by year 2030 that 30% of the local recruit class is female. OPD is currently at 15% and the national average is 12%.
Here are more photos from the recent OPD women recruitment event:
“At the Orlando Police Department, we are proud to spotlight the remarkable women who lead the way in our police force,” OPD posted. “From Sergeant and all the way up to Deputy Chief, 19% of our agency’s leadership team consists of women compared to the national average of 3%.”
OPD also reminds interested people: the time is now to become an Orlando police officer as new hires can receive an $8,000 bonus ($5,000 from the state and $3,000 from the city). Visit the Orlando Police Department for more information on job opportunities and to contact the OPD recruiting unit.
“We are honored to have these amazing women leaders in our ranks, breaking stereotypes and making a difference every day,” OPD posted. “They all exemplify courage, pride and commitment.”
