Orlando moves Ahead with Creative Village

The City of Orlando is moving ahead with its plans to redevelop the site of the current Amway Arena into a Creative Village, even as the new Amway Center nears completion and the Orlando Magic prepares to transition to its new home. To this end, the City has been put out a Request For Proposals (RFPs) from all developers nationwide for master plans to develop the area.  The deadline for submissions of all plans is April by 26th.

As part of the City’s vision, Orlando’s Mayor Buddy Dyer, back in August 2006, appointed the Downtown Orlando Creative Village Concept Team who were charged with crafting a vision for Downtown Orlando Creative Village.   The Team’s concept envisaged that the proposed area would contain high-quality mixed-use business and residential units, including education and entertainment. The boundaries of the Creative Village are Hughey Avenue to the East, West Livingston to the South, Parramore Avenue to the West and Concord Street to the North.

It is anticipated that the Creative Village will be a magnet for knowledge workers to live, work, learn and play and builds on the existing presence of the University of Central Florida’s School of Film and Digital Media and the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy (FIEA).

Already considered one of the top 12 digital media clusters in the country, many believe that the Downtown Orlando Creative Village will further Orlando’s development as a magnet for creative industries.
