Orlando resident Chris Reining has always dreamed of owning a home for himself and his two children. Now that dream is a reality because of the City’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP). On Tuesday, August 3, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 2 City Commissioner Tony Ortiz will welcome Chris and his family to their new home – the first home purchased through the City’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program.
As part of Mayor Dyer’s Strengthen Orlando initiative, the City secured $6.7 million from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to implement the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP). During the initial phase of the NSP, the City purchased foreclosed properties and rehabilitated the houses for sale. These homes are now available for purchase. Additionally, the program assists qualified buyers (low-to moderate-income) with down payments and closing costs.
Residents interested in purchasing a home through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program can find a complete listing of available homes and eligibility requirements at www.cityoforlando.net/housing.
Through the NSP, the City of Orlando has purchased a total of 24 homes. To date, 11 homes have been rehabilitated and are now available for purchase, with the other 13 currently under renovation.
