A man who burned his bed-ridden father’s mattress will now face first degree murder charges, Orange County deputies said.
71-year-old Santiago Torres died on October 9, following injuries he sustained when his son, Santiago Torres, Jr., 43, set fire to his mattress and pillow, two days before.
Investigators had gone to the home at 7849 Toledo Street, where they discovered Torres, Sr’s mattress and pillow had been set on fire by his son. The fire had been put out by a family member.
The senior Torres, who received burns to his upper body, passed away last Thursday.
Santiago Torres, Jr.’s charges have been upgraded from attempted homicide to first degree murder.
