Orlando Man Shot in the Butt by Cop, After Traffic Stop

A man who attempted to shoot at an Orlando police officer early on Saturday morning, after a traffic stop was initiated, is behind bars. The cop who opened fire, hitting the suspect in the buttocks has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of FDLE’s investigation.

Marvin Habakkuk Ellison

Orlando Police initiated a traffic stop on a black Ford expedition, traveling westbound on west Washington Street, with overly tinted windows.  The cops followed the vehicle which refused to stop.  At the intersection of west Central Boulevard and Jamil Avenue, the passenger in the front seat, the suspect, jumped out of the moving vehicle and the police officers commanded the suspect to stop on several occasions, but he refused.

The suspect, Marvin Habakkuk Ellison, 27, of Clarinda Street, Orlando, on two occasions pointed a black handgun at one of the officers.  In fear for his life, the police officer fired two rounds, one of them striking Ellison in the left upper buttocks region.  As Ellison felt to the ground, he threw his handgun into Lake Lorna Doone.  Police have since recovered Ellison’s handgun.

Ellison was handcuffed, taken to ORMC and treated.  He has since been released.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford expedition continued westbound on West Central Boulevard.  The vehicle was found later abandoned on Halbe Avenue.

Ellison was charged with aggravated assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a firearm and resisting an officer.  He was taken to the Orange County Jail. Bond has been set at $5,250.

The police officer has been placed on administrative leave, which is procedural.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the officer’s use of force.
