Orlando Man Arrested in Governor Manor Cabbie Murder

Police have arrested and charged a man in connection with the murder of a cab driver on January 12, 2011.

Bernard M. Ford, 22, of Grand Pointe, has been charged with first degree murder and armed robbery of 43-year-old Nelvil Joseph, the cabbie.

Joseph’s body was found in the Governor Manor Parking lot on L B McLeod Road nearly two weeks ago.

Ford was located by the Orlando Police Department Fugitive Unit around 3:00 pm, today, and arrested without incident, Orlando Police said.

Joseph was the first taxi cab driver to the killed in Orlando since the start of the year.

On January 22, another Mears Transportation taxi cab driver, Matthew George Manolas, 35, was found murdered on Lake Highland Drive around 3:15 a.m.

Three suspects from Sanford were arrested and charged with Manolas’ shooting–Samuel Jackson, 19; Darrell Davis, 22; and Harley A. McMillan 22 years, and remain in the Orange County Jail.

The Florida Civil Rights Association has called for tougher penalties for persons assaulting cab drivers.
