The Orlando Magic will recognize and promote awareness of World AIDS Day during their game against the Miami Heat on Wednesday, November 25th. Tip-off time is &;30 p.m. at the Amway Arena, Orlando.
The activities for the evening will include the following:
– Hope and Help table on the concourse, which will distribute literature on World AIDS Day
– Mobile HIV testing unit at the pregame Fan Fest where fans can get tested for free
– 30 second public service announcement which will run throughout the game
– Staff and broadcasters will also wear red ribbons in support of World AIDS Day
World AIDS Day is usually commemorated on December 1st each year. This year, 2009, marks the 21st anniversary of World AIDS Day. World AIDS Day is about raising money, increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education.
The theme for World AIDS Day theme for 2009 is ‘Universal Access and Human Rights’.
The Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) estimates there are now 33.2 million people globally, living with HIV, including 2.5 million children.
