As reported on West Orlando News last night via SI.com, the Milwaukee Bucks were in talks with the Orlando Magic about acquiring reserve guard J.J. Redick
According to the report, the Bucks were shopping Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, but the Magic have balked on taking the fourth year forward out of UCLA per Magicbasketball.net via USA Today.
Orlando is hoping to trade Redick away for draft picks, or a player they can use as trade bait for picks in the future. Redick is a free agent after this season and there is no guarantee that he’ll re-up with the Magic.
And before fans start to talk about how much Redick and his family “love” living in Winter Garden as to why he may stick around, try pleading to his sense of home when another team comes knocking with the $10 million per year he’s seeking.
In reality, the Magic may be smart to trade him away before he walks. They lost their 38th game of the season on Tuesday night and things aren’t looking to get better anytime soon.
Redick and his Magic comrades are just 3-25 over their last 28 games, so trading away for the future may be in their best interest.
The NBA trade deadline is at 3pm ET on Thursday, February 21st. If a deal for Redick happens, the Magic have just over a day to get it done.
