The Orlando Magic was honored with the Corporation of the Year award from the Florida Minority Supplier Diversity Council (FMSDC) at their annual conference. The award is given to companies who have demonstrated efforts of partnership and collaboration with minority owned business enterprises; recognizing the Magic’s commitment to diversity and inclusion of minority owned businesses across Central Florida.
As part of its effort to create an inclusive environment for all partners, the Magic instituted a supplier diversity program in April 2010. Since its inception the organization has spent over $800,000 with women and minority owned businesses in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties.
“The Magic are honored to receive this award from the FMSDC,” said Orlando Magic President Alex Martins. “We believe the development of women and minority owned businesses can serve as a catalyst for economic growth and long term sustainability for the entire Central Florida region.”
As part of the Magic supplier diversity program, all women and minority owned businesses are encouraged to inquire about getting involved through [email protected] with a capabilities document describing the nature of your business, contact information along with a copy of your certification. The Orlando Magic accepts minority certifications from Orange County, the City of Orlando, the State of Florida, Florida Minority Supplier Diversity Council (FMSDC) and Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WEBENC).
Additional opportunities for women and minority owned businesses also exist with the NBA All-Star weekend in Orlando in February 2012. The NBA is seeking Women and Minority owned vendors to participate in the All-Star procurement process.
Woman and minority-owned businesses in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties are encouraged to visit the NBA at www.nba.com/allstarvendordiversity and fill out an application. All vendors that submit an application will receive a response after the close of the application process on October 1, 2011. No applications will be accepted after this date.
At the completion of the application process all approved vendors will be included in the on-line Vendor Resource Guide. The Vendor Resource Guide is the primary source for fulfilling All-Star procurement needs. The NBA’s Vendor Diversity Program has a strong legacy of working with local woman and minority owned businesses in the host All-Star city.
