Orlando International Airport Thanksgiving Travel Down Slightly

r-BUSIEST-AIRPORTS-THANKSGIVING-2012-large570More than 1.2 million passengers are expected to move through the Orlando International Airport for the 12-day travel season. This year the Thanksgiving travel period is between November 22 and December 3, 2013. Compared to this same time last year, overall holiday travel is down approximately 13,288 passengers or about 1.06 percent from 1,251,521. The significant changes were a decrease of Air Tran flights and capacity attributed to its merger with Southwest Airlines.

Busiest Days:

Saturday, November 30th is the busiest day of the travel season with 118,011 total passengers Sunday, December 1st is the second busiest day of the travel season with 115,939 total passengers Saturday, November 23rd is the third busiest day of the travel season with 112,606 total passengers

Packing Rules:

Pack lightly. Remember many airlines will charge extra fees for luggage.

Remember the 3-1-1 rule. THREE ounce or less sized containers of liquids or gel that will fit inside ONE quart- sized, clear plastic, zip-top bag and only ONE bag per person. Check the Transportation Security Administration website for specifics at www.TSA.gov .

Check the TSA website for rules on traveling with food for the holidays. This will avoid extended delays in the security checkpoint and possibly having to destroy Grandma’s favorite dessert.

Weapons DO NOT fly in your carry-on luggage. Leave all weapons at home or securely locked in your vehicle. Double check your carry-on baggage before entering the security checkpoint.

Flying with Animals:

Each airline handles the transport of pets differently and requirements may vary; however, there are some general questions that should be considered prior to flying with your pet:

? Types of animals allowed
? Number of pets allowed in the cabin
? Are pets allowed in cargo area
? Is cargo area climate controlled
? Are advanced reservations required
? Is a health certificate required
? Breed restrictions
? Size restrictions
? Age restrictions
? Recommended types of carriers/ containers ? Multiple pets in same carrier
? Pet transport fees
