Orlando Harley-Davidson Hosts “Ride Like a HOGstar” to Help Fight Hunger

On Sunday, May 22, Orlando Harley-Davidson hosted “Ride Like a HOGstar” benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, a nonprofit organization that provides hunger relief to people in need throughout the region. More than 850 motorcycle enthusiasts took part in the charitable police escorted ride and after-party.

“Earlier this year, we launched the ‘Hogs Against Hunger’ campaign supporting Second Harvest,” said Anne Deli, president of Orlando Harley-Davidson. “We were happy to provide motorcycle enthusiasts with an opportunity to support Second Harvest by raising awareness and much-needed dollars to fight hunger in the region. It was a fun and meaningful day!”

Motorcycle raffle ticket proceeds and donations – totaling $45,000 – went to Second Harvest’s Hi-Five Kids Pack Program, which provides nutritious meals to needy children who don’t have access to school cafeterias during the weekend.

“This much-needed donation is going to provide nearly 17,000 shelf stable weekend packs, which contain a variety of kid-friendly items such as cereal, milk and juice, fruit cups and other nutritious snacks,” said Brad Butterstein Executive Vice Chair of Second Harvest’s Board of the Directors. “The kids really enjoy receiving these packs!”

During the after-party, Orlando Harley-Davidson raffled off of a 2011 Harley-Davidson® Road King® Classic motorcycle. Bob Touchette of Oviedo, Fla. won the bike, while Azalea Cruz won a $500 gift card and Mike Ganthier won a $100 gift card.

In 2010, more than 80 organizations received donations from Orlando Harley-Davidson, including quality merchandise, monetary contributions and even a motorcycle. Over the last few years, it has raised more than $500,000 in donations for children’s causes alone. Last year alone, Second Harvest served 732,000 different people and distributed enough food for 17 million meals. Through “Hogs Against Hunger,” they’ve combined forces to strike a significant blow against hunger.
