Average retail gas prices in Orlando were $3.79/gallon on Sunday, 27.2 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and close to $1.00 per gallon higher than the same day one year ago, according to OrlandoGasPrices.com.
But don’t be fooled by the average price of gas in Orlando.
Some of the highest gas prices can be found on the road to the Orlando International Airport. According to cfnews13.com, The Suncoast Energy Station on South Semoran Boulevard, close to the airport is charging $5.69 per gallon for regular unleaded and there is nothing to warn customers of these prices, except on the pump.
Complaints of price gouging by gas stations in the vicinity of Orlando International Airport, over many years, let the City of Orlando to pass an ordinance recently, stipulating that prices should be properly advertised, so customers are fully aware.
Meanwhile, President Obama announced late last last week the formation of a working group to examine rising gas prices saying, the Justice Department will try to “root out” cases of fraud or manipulation in oil markets.
But this task force might just be too little, too late. Obama has seen his poll numbers sag and many suggests that the president’s plunging popularity is tied in a big way to the ongoing rise in gas prices.
With the 2012 presidential campaign underway, perhaps a task force to “root out” long-known fraud and manipulation of the oil markets, is just what Americans needs!
