Long time executive director of the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority said Monday he will resign next year.
Mike Snyder said in a letter to the chairman of the Authority, he’ll demit office in March, when he turns 65.
Snyder leaves the Authority amidst much controversy over the agency’s debt load and acknowledged as much.
Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs recently called for Synder’s resignation, after questions were raised about the size of the agency’s debt. The Authority is holding about $1 billion in bonds which many say, have led to increases in tolls.
“While I steadfastly stand behind my service to our organization and our community, I recognize that my service has become a distraction to the good work of the Expressway Authority,” Snyder wrote in the letter to the chairman, Walter Ketcham, the News Service of Florida reports. Snyder has been head of the authority since 2004.
A possible replacement for Snyder could be Rep. Steve Precourt (R-Orlando), a road construction engineer, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
