Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority board member, Scott Batterson was indicted Thursday on charges of bribery and soliciting unlawful compensation by a public official.
Batterson’s indictment comes in the wake of an investigation launched by State Attorney Jeff Ashton into claims that Batterson, Marco Pena and Noranne Downs of the expressway authority privately discussed removing their director, Max Crumit.
Gov. Rick Scott immediately suspended Batterson and issued the following statement:
“Today, my office took immediate action to suspend Scott Batterson from the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority. All public officials must be held to the highest ethical standards – and we support State Attorney Jeff Ashton’s efforts to hold public officials accountable.”
If convicted Batterson faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
The investigation into the Orlando-Orange Expressway Authority is still ongoing.
