It’s known as the most dangerous city for pedestrians in America, but in line with its commitment to providing multi-modal forms of transportation, the city of Orlando has installed four bike repair stations at strategic locations to accommodate commuter and recreational cyclists.

Home to more than 300 miles of urban bicycling trails, signed routes and lanes, Orlando has been designated Bicycle Friendly Community since 2000.

Over the past year, the city added more wayfinding signage for cyclists at intersections high-use corridors like Delaney Avenue, Highland Avenue and Summerlin Avenue; completed the Orlando Primary Bicycle Route Study and launched a bike rack request program.

For years Orlando has been known as America’s most dangerous place for pedestrians, topping the Pedestrian Danger Index. A 2014 report released by the National Complete Streets Coalition named Orlando as the #1 most dangerous metro area for pedestrians.

The repair stations feature an air pump and set of tools so that cyclists have a convenient place to perform basic bike repairs or maintenance without the need to go to a bicycle shop or return home. The stations will allow riders to do things like pump up their tires, fix a flat or adjust their bike seat.

The locations of the bike repairs stations are:

  1. City Commons garage
  2. Lake Underhill Path (east end)
  3. Cady Way Trailhead (west end)
  4. Orlando Urban Trail (near Ferris)

Bicycle deaths account for about 5% of deaths involving motor vehicles in Florida, with the Sunshine state second to California in the number of bicycle traffic deaths between 2010 and 2012.
