The number of passengers passing through the Orlando International Airport (MCO) declined by 2.4 percent in April, as compared to the same month, one year ago, a statement from the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority said. The reduction in passengers can be attributed to lower domestic travel, down by 3.24 percent, as the US economy struggles to come out of the Great Recession.
Even as domestic travel declined in April, international passenger traffic was up 5.82 percent, despite the global air-travel disruptions caused by the volcano eruptions in Iceland.
In April, over three million passengers moved through MCO, with 3,013,328 recorded travelers.
Year-to-date traffic is up by less than one percent, 0.69%
