Orange County recorded an unemployment rate of 6.6 percent in March, down from 7.0 percent the month before, according to new data released on Friday.
For Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Sumter counties as a whole, the jobless rate was 6.6 percent in March, the lowest since September 2008, when it was also 6.6 percent. The region’s jobless rate was down 2.0 percentage points from 8.6 percent a year ago and was 0.4 percentage point lower than the state rate of 7.0 percent.
Sumter County’s unemployment rate, 5.6 percent, was the lowest of the counties. The unemployment rates in the other counties were: 6.2 percent in Seminole County, 7.0 percent in Lake County and 7.1 percent in Osceola County.
The unemployment rate for Florida was 7.5 percent in March and for the nation as a whole, 7.6 percent.
