Orange County teachers’ money fight more protracted

salary

The Orange County Classroom Teachers Association (CTA) has rejected an offer to speed up the impasse process regarding salary negotiations.

Last Thursday, the Orange County School District sent a letter to CTA proposing that the appointment of a Special Magistrate be bypassed and the matter taken directly to the School Board.  But that offer was rejected yesterday.

A statement from the District said, a Special Magistrate will now be requested to make recommendations to the School Board on the salary proposals and a hearing could be scheduled within the next two to three months.

“In the meantime, the district remains committed to continuing negotiations on all outstanding issues, including teacher salaries,” the statement added.

The two-year and one-year salary offers are the highest of any district in the state, the District claims.
