In a surprising move, Orange County voters rejected incumbents State House Democrats Joe Saunders (District 49) and Linda Stewart (District 47), choosing instead Republican challengers, Rene Plasencia and Mike Miller.
Does this signal the end of Orlando’s progressive wing?
Orange County Democrats, leaderless and pathetic, should have known that the caustic, pompousness of these two left-wing darlings was bound to be short-lived.
Political cliques have a funny way of collapsing on themselves, especially when they involve racism, class and snobbery.
Ok, maybe that’s a little harsh. But everyone knows that Orlando’s faux progressive wing doesn’t even talk to blacks, the poor or single parent households that make up the bulk of Orange County.
That’s going to need to change.
And maybe, just maybe if Linda Stewart or Joe Saunders get another opportunity to serve the people of Orange County again, they’ll remember that it isn’t always wise to stick with the cliques.
