Orange County Mounted Patrol Outruns Convicted Felon

A convicted felon learned on Tuesday how difficult it is to outrun an Orange County mounted patrol unit.

Torion Thomas

Deputy Sheriff Mike Kleinfelt, patrolling on horseback in a high crime area on Sterling Chase Lane around 12:30 pm, came upon 20-year-old Torion Thomas, who took off running as the deputy approached him.

Deputy Kleinfelt and his partner Holly gave chase and were able to easily outpace Thomas, but not before he discarded a firearm while fleeing.

Thomas was quickly apprehended and the firearm recovered.

Deputies confirmed that the firearm had been stolen in a burglary that had taken place on December 5, 2009.

Thomas, who has a long rap sheet, was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed fire arm by a convicted felon and resisting arrest without violence.
