Orange County Mom Indicted for Murder of Infant Son

An Orange County mom was recently indicted for the murder of her infant son after intentionally setting herself and two children on fire.

An Orange County grand jury formally indicted 26-year-old Esther Thelus for First Degree Murder and Attempted First Degree Murder for setting fire to herself, killing her infant child and injuring another child.

On August 26th, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in west Orange County for a report of a fire involving a woman and two children.

Deputies found Thelus and two young children with burns on their bodies. First responders transported the three to the hospital where they were treated for their injuries.

The infant boy was transferred to UF Shands Hospital in Gainesville due to the severity of his injuries where he died.

The investigation determined Thelus intentionally set herself and the two children on fire and deputies arrested her.

State Attorney Andrew Bain’s office presented sufficient evidence to a grand jury to secure an indictment against Thelus for First Degree Murder and Attempted First Degree Murder.
