Orange County Law Enforcement Memorial Day service

WHAT: Law Enforcement Memorial Day Service
WHEN: Thursday  —  May 6,  2010  —  7:30 PM
WHERE: Orange County Courthouse – 425 North Orange Avenue  — Orlando, Florida 32801
Service will be conducted on the main entrance, north side of the building

WHO:    Sheriff Jerry L. Demings and Orlando Police Chief Val Demings are slated to attend as are a number of area Chiefs of Police and dignitaries

WHY:    Short of serving in the armed forces during a time of conflict or as a firefighter few career choices put those who pursue them in life or death situations more often than a career in law enforcement.  During 2009, 125 law enforcement officers were killed while serving their communities.   Orange County’s annual law enforcement memorial service is a time for the community and law enforcement to come together to honor and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.  We all too often take those who step up the challenge of serving and protecting for granted.  Seldom do we ponder just how dangerous police work is in today’s world.

Sheriff Demings cordially invites all citizens of Orange County to join law enforcement in this most fitting tribute to Orange County’s fallen law enforcement officers.
