Orange County in Need of School Crossing Guards

Orange County is facing a school crossing guard shortage.

Currently, there are 48 school crossing guard vacancies throughout Orange County, according to a statement from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings expressed his concern that “if citizens within the different communities do not sign up, deputies may have to use valuable crime fighting time to man crossing guard posts or worse, many young school children may have to cross a busy Orange County street without any adult supervision.”

School Crossing Guards who work under contract with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office receive $9.25 an hour and work two hours a day. Training, retirement benefits, life insurance, fingerprint and background checks, medical exam, physical ability test and equipment are provided at no cost to applicants.

School Crossing Guards are needed countywide. To apply online, visit our website at www.ocso.com. The School Crossing Guard Office is located at the Sheriff’s Central Operations Complex in Human Resources at 2500 West Colonial Drive, Orlando 32804.

For more information call the School Crossing Guard Unit at 407-836-4082.
