Orange County EPD Extends Art Contest Deadline

The Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has extended the deadline to allow the opportunity for more Orange County high school students to assist them in communicating the importance of preventing pollution through the “Art 4 Clean Air” calendar contest. The new deadline is Wednesday, December 14, 2011, 5 PM. The winning entries will appear in a sixteen month 2013 Calendar to be distributed during P2 Week next year (2012).

For their efforts students are eligible to win a hot air balloon ride for two, donated by Orlando Balloon Rides as the grand prize. Other fabulous prizes include SeaWorld tickets, Florida State Park passes, and Adventures Outpost guided river tours. The schools of winning entries will be awarded gift cards to Art Systems or Sam Flax for the purposes of purchasing art supplies, made possible in part by Metropolitan Environmental Training Alliance (METRA).

The contest connects Arts to Science with students creating art to communicate actions that help keep our air clean and reduce negative climate change impacts. “Art 4 Clean Air” is open to all Orange County 9th -12th grade high school students. Accepted submissions will include both 2-D and 3-D art forms.

Early next year, an art exhibit, displaying all entries, will be held at the Climate Change Education Center at the south concourse of the Orange County Convention Center. A recognition ceremony will be conducted in May 2012 during Clean Air Month with winning entries to be exhibited in the atrium of the Orange County Administration Center, 201 S. Rosalind Avenue, Orlando.
