Orange County earned IAS Accreditation, marking a major milestone in building safety excellence.
Orange County’s Division of Building Safety earned accreditation from the International Accreditation Service (IAS), making Orange County the most populous county in Florida, and among the largest in the nation, to receive the designation.
“IAS Accreditation validates the hard work, discipline, and professionalism of our entire team,” said Building Safety Manager Alan C. Plante. “This achievement confirms that our policies, procedures, and daily operations meet nationally recognized standards. Orange County residents can be assured that their local building department excels in customer service and in the consistent and fair application of the Florida Building Code.”
Just three counties in Florida have achieved this accreditation, and among them, Orange County serves the largest population. The county stated that this internationally recognized achievement underscores Building Safety’s commitment to seeking the highest standards for quality, consistency, and accountability.
IAS is a nonprofit, public-benefit corporation that help organizations demonstrate compliance and competence to their customers, regulators and the public. IAS accreditation demonstrates that building departments have met the national standard and are competent to provide public safety services for their communities.
Customer experience was a key component of the IAS evaluation. Orange County’s customer surveys averaged 4.5 out of 5 across permitting, plan review, and inspections, reflecting a strong commitment to service, quality, and responsiveness.
The accreditation is based on IAS Accreditation Criteria for Building Code Regulatory Agencies and Third-Party Service Providers (AC251). Getting accredited involves an assessment of the department’s goals, policies, and procedures, as well as permitting, inspections and plan reviews.
