An Orange County deputy sheriff suffered minor injures after his patrol car overturned and caught fire on Saturday night.
The crash happened just before 10:00 p.m., on State Road 408 near Good Homes Road.
Deputy Daniel Payne, 27, was heading east on State Road 408, when a vehicle pulled in front of his patrol car. In attempting to take evasive action, he lost control of his cop car, which left the roadway, troopers say. His vehicle overturned, struck a tree and caught fire.
Deputy Payne was helped out of the patrol car by a passerby. He was taken to Health Central Hospital with minor injuries.
The deputy was responding to an emergency call with his lights and siren activated, when the crash occurred.
Deputy Payne has been with the Orange County Sheriff Office nearly two years and is assigned to Uniform Patrol Section 3 Patrol.
