Orange County Deputies Honored For Bravery

On Thursday, August 26, 2010 seven Orange County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an apartment fire.  Upon arrival, the bottom floor apartment appeared to be totally engulfed in flames with thick black smoke pouring from the front windows.  All seven deputies began assisting Fire/Rescue by searching for anyone trapped in the building. Two deputies evacuated the area including apartments in the building while five others ran around the rear of the building breaking out windows in an attempt to make contact with potential victims.  Several deputies (one a trained fireman) climbed a Fire Rescue ladder in an effort to save a woman trapped on her balcony with two children.

The deputies are:

Corporal Carrie Yannucci, Corporal Dave Mataya, DFC Ronald Raslowsky, Deputy Jeffrey Lotter, Reserve Deputy Mark Kasprow, DFC Terry Brown and Deputy Merlin Ghobrial.
