It’s hard to tell that we are into the political season if you are a Democrat living in Orange County. Why? Well, a recent visit to the Democratic Party of Orange County (DPOC) website: www.orangedemocrats.com was a real eye opener, given the absence of information.
Sure, there is information on the Democratic Executive Committee (DEC) of Orange County, its mission, officers and Standing Committees, but there was little beyond that.
By way of information, there are 10 Standing Committees, including Development, Campaigns, Precinct activities, Membership, Procedures, Public Relations, Events, and there’s even a “Young Democrats” committee.
Ok, so I clicked on the “Candidates” link, and got nothing. Hello, are there Democrats running for office in Orange County?
Then, I went on to click on DEC news. It said “No items found”. There is a link which goes to “Archived News and Announcements”, so I clicked on that. The most recent post was dated October 14th 2008, entitled “District 8 Race Tightening.”
Not ready to give up yet, I clicked on the “Resources” link. It led me to several links like, Orange County Young Democrats, UCF College Democrats, National Women’s Political Caucus, Democratic National Committee, and a few more.
I thought perhaps that the Orange County Young Democrats (OCYD) might be more active, so I clicked on their website: www.orangeyd.org. Oh, well, nothing much there either beyond the names of the OCYD Executive Board.
There is a “Welcome to the OCYD Website” note from the President, Darren Vierday–he was elected on August 16th 2009– posted on August 17th 2009.
I went looking for “OCYD News”. There is an amendment to their “Constitution and Bylaws” up for consideration on February 16th. That was posted recently, but prior to this, the next most recent post was 17 August 2009, when the new OCYD leadership was elected.
Regarding upcoming events, here is a ‘list’ that I found on the site: “OCYD is hosting the 1st Annual Blue & White Ball, Double Tree Universal Hotel, Saturday, May 22nd 2009, 7:00 pm. Click her to purchase tickets”.
Click here to purchase tickets, indeed!
The tag line on the OCYD website says, “Where the Party Starts”. I would add, “And Where it Ends”.
