Orange County Board of County Commissioners to Hold Special Meeting

The Orange County Board of County Commissioners is going to hold a special meeting on Monday, March 2, 2026.

The BCC will discuss a potential Local Government Infrastructure Surtax, which could end up on the 2026 ballot for voters to decide.

The special meeting is for Orange County Commissioners to hear a presentation from the Trust for Public Land on feasibility research and public opinion surveys related to a potential Local Government Infrastructure Surtax.

Following the January 13, 2026, BCC discussion, Mayor Jerry Demings requested Trust for Public Land (TPL) conduct research to gauge community priorities and public sentiment on potential uses of surtax funding.

If pursued, the Local Government Infrastructure Surtax could support investments in:

  • Land acquisition for environmentally sensitive lands
  • Parks, trails, and outdoor recreation
  • Stormwater / water quality improvements
  • Land acquisition for affordable housing
  • Facilities
  • Transportation infrastructure

TPL will present its findings and recommendations. County staff will also outline potential project categories and summarize County and Municipal needs for BCC consideration.

According to Orange County government, the Commissioner’s feedback will guide next steps, including whether to place the surtax on the November 2026 General Election ballot.

The special meeting on the infrastructure surtax will take place at the Orange County Administration Center at 201 S. Rosalind Ave. (Orlando 32801) in the Board of County Commissioners Chambers on Monday, March 2nd at 1pm.

Located in Central Florida, seven elected members make up the Orange County Board of County Commissioners, including the Mayor, who is elected countywide.
