In an effort to curb the ongoing violence, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Chaplains kicked off on Monday, a 40-day non-denominational program called Operational Transformation.
The program responds to a plea made in August by Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings at a news conference to announce the arrest in the shooting of an innocent 15-year-old girl, the passenger in a minivan. At that time, Demings called for a “cease fire” and asked the clergy to join with law enforcement and help organize 40 days of prayer.
Some 50 churches throughout the faith-based community have pledged to support OCSO’s crime fighting efforts by holding prayer vigils to help reduce gun violence.
The vigils will be held at two Operation Transformation locations during the early evening hours, from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. The locations are: Texas and Americana Avenue and Silver Star Road and Hiawassee Road. The vigils will end on November 9th.
