Operation ‘Safe Holidays’ Launched

Kick off event for Central Florida law enforcement and local private security operation’s holiday safety initiative – OPERATION SAFE HOLIDAYS 2009

WHEN:        Wednesday, November 18, 2009  —  11:00 AM

WHERE:    Mall of Millennia  —  4200 Conroy Road, Orlando, FL  — Event will be conducted at the southwest entrance portal area of the mall (food court, upper level entrance)

WHO:    Sheriff Demings will be joined by area police chiefs and representatives from local security concerns.  Police Chiefs scheduled to attend:  Chief Val Demings/Orlando, Chief Brett Railey/Winter Park, Chief George Brennan/Winter Garden, Chief Charles Brown/Ocoee, Chief Pete Marcus/Edgewood, Chief John Tegg/Belle Isle, and Chief Richard Beary/University of Central Florida.

Private security representatives scheduled to attend include:  James Davis/Securitas Security Services, August Moran/Waldorf-Astoria, Greg Forehand/Orange County Convention Center, Luann Brooks/International Drive Master Transit and Improvement District, Greg Moore/Pointe Orlando, Robert Jenkins/Prime Outlet Mall, Stephen Boyd/Bloomingdale’s Mall of Millennia, Brian Peters/General Manager – Florida Mall, Jim Langela/Director of Security – Florida Mall, Earl Massey/Premium Outlet Mall, Bill Nall/Cypress Point Resort, Dave Murray/COPS Monitoring – ASIS, Arnold Chase/Chase Security – ASIS, Steve Gaiser/Waterford Town Center, Jeff Villella/Director of Security/Walt Disney World, Kelly Klatt/Lowes Hotels – Universal Studios Orlando – ASIS, John Goolsby/HD Supply – ASIS, John Niebling/Jet Blue Airways Corporate Security – ASIS, Craig Weidele/Universal Orlando Security – ASIS, Peter Schmal/Villas at the Grand Cypress

WHY:    To further Sheriff Demings’ number one goal of reducing crime and the fear of crime in the community the Sheriff’s Office is partnering with local municipalities and private security concerns for Operation Safe Holiday 2009, a series of proactive anti-crime initiatives that will be conducted during the holiday season throughout Orange County.  Between November 18, 2009 and January 2, 2010 the Sheriff’s Office will place special emphasis on the area’s shopping areas, tourist corridors, and high crime areas throughout the county. Residential burglaries will be one of the primary focuses of the holiday operation.  In addition to Operation Safe Holidays 2009 high profile and aggressive enforcement activities, public education and awareness will be a major component of the holiday detail.
