OPD Officer Shoots and Kills Driver in traffic stop

UPDATE: February 17th 2:55 pm:  Orlando Police Department has released the names of the deceased and OPD officer in this shooting incident.

Deceased: Phillipe Louis, 27 years.   Louis did not have a valid drivers license.   There was also a warrant out of Pennsylvania for marijuana possession.

OPD Officer: Jared R. Famularo. Famularo was assigned to the West Patrol Division at night.

A routine traffic stop initiated by an Orlando Police Department (OPD) officer outside Universal Resort, led to the driver being shot and killed early this morning.

According to OPD:

At approximately 2:00 am on February 17th, an OPD officer initiated a traffic stop on a small pick up truck close to Universal Resort. After pulling over the driver, the occupant pointed a gun at the officer. The officer felt threatened and discharged his weapon, fatally wounding the driver.  It is not known if the driver of the vehicle ever fired his weapon or the reason why he was pulled over.   OFD responded to the scene and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The OPD officer was not injured and is being placed on paid administrative leave, pending the completion of the investigation; FDLE will be conducting the investigation.

OPD has not yet released the name of the deceased pending next of kin notification.  The officer’s name is also being withheld.

  • Turkey Lake and Vineland
  • Peregrine and Windover
  • Universal and Hard Rock
