OCSO: No Second Suspect in Deputy Murder

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies said on Thursday that, they do not believe a second person was involved in the murder of the deputy who was shot and killed, following a routine traffic stop, on Wednesday night at the intersection of South Orange Blossom Trail and 45th Street.

Investigators said that information provided by a single witness following the shooting, raised concerns that a second suspect was involved in the incident.  However, after thoroughly interviewing a number of other witnesses and conducting an extensive search in and around the area where the deceased suspect was located, investigators believe that the gunman was alone when he shot the deputy.

Detectives believe that Brandon Lyals was the shooter of the 27-year-old Orange County Sheriff’s deputy who lost his life in the line of duty on Wednesday.

Lyals was subsequently found dead at a second location with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators are continuing their investigation into the deputy shooting, but the search for a “second suspect” has been discontinued.

The name of the deputy who was killed has not yet been released.

Deputies are appealing to the public and anyone who may have witnessed this incident to please call the Sheriff’s Office immediately at 407.254.7000.
