OCSO: Man Killed by Deputy in East Orange County Identified

A man who was shot and killed by an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy in East Orange County on Saturday night has been identified.

Jose Rodriguez-Gallo, 54, was shot and killed by Deputy Anthony Shea, after he failed to follow orders to drop his weapon.

The shooting occurred just before 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, in the Whisper Lakes subdivision located at Briana Court.

Deputies had responded to the Whisper Lakes subdivision where they found, Rodriguez-Gallo threatening Carlos Monslave-Correa, 31, with a weapon. They ordered Rodriguez-Gallo to drop his firearm, but he refused, a spokesman from the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputy Anthony Shea then opened fire, killing Rodriguez-Gallo.   It is unknown how many shots were fired.

Investigators said, Monslave-Correa had been injured by Rodriguez-Gallo, before he was killed by Deputy Shea.

Monsalve-Correa was taken to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It is not clear what led to the altercation between Rodriguez-Gallo and Monsalve-Correa.

Deputy Shea has been with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office since 2006 and is assigned to OCSO Sector 4 patrol. Following the shooting he has been assigned to administrative duties for at least one week.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the deputy-involved shooting

  1. My uncle Jose Rodriguez was a good citizen. He had a clean record. He was the one who told the people to call the police. That guy Monsalve Correa is the one that has to be investigated because as per testimonies my uncle was saying that Monsalve Correa was going to rob then at my uncle’s friend house. Why this officer Anthony Shea had to kill him. He was not a man of troubles. If he refused to drop the weapon why he shooted him many times. Come one The police’s job is to save lifes not take them. That Officer killed him, murdered him why killed him, why, why. It is not fare. The police officers should always try to injured the person if the person has a gun not kill them. This Officer should be investigated. He does not have the right to go around killing innocent people because they have a gun. In Orlando Florida is legallly that people carry guns with the licence and my uncle had it since 2004. Please investigated this case because my uncle was a good man. He was just defending himself from someone that he didnt know.

  2. Soranyi is correct. The officer has been trained to know were to shoot. He should have only wounded him. We know he was intoxicated and people normally don’t respond as quickly in that situation. Shooting multiple shot shows how “well trained” the deputy was, knowing in situations like that are supposed to handled with caution. We’ll miss you Jose.

  3. Jose Rodiguez

Was a very good man , This was injust, this police man should be taken off the force, and face Murder charges, We the people demand more from our civial servants, this was not handeld right. I will miss my good friend god bless him and his Family

  4. sorry for your loss but are you kidding me??? This person shot an unarmed man twice and then the cop said put it down and he refused? was the cop suppose to wait for this amazing citizen to drop the gun? you got to be kidding me!!! as far as i am concerned this cop saved lives and perhaps your uncle should have called 911 if he was being robbed. second why would he not drop the gun? this uncle of yours could have missed a shot a killed a child in that neighborhood…as far as being tried for murder well the real attemped murderer is dead. job well done officer thank you for saving lives

  5. wow a bit on the ignorant side i happen to be a near by resident and saw the aftermath. i am sorry for your loss but this man shot the other man and was shooting everywhere i have a wife and kids and your uncles careless actions could have led to one of my loved ones death i am greatfull this cop did his job because he saved lives. i agree you should not solve issues with guns your uncle should have called 911 if he was being robbed and not shot the man. as far as murder charges come on people should the cop have let this man die on the road? REALLY? stop watching movies cops are not trained to wound people what if the cop missed and your uncle finished what he started and killed the man? then the mans family would be suing the cop for not saving his life? and to address Soranyi Florida law says you could carry a gun but not shot unarmed men and not refuse and officers order to drop it…should the cop have waited for your uncle to kill the man then the cop come on what planet do you guys live in…i am greatful that your uncles carless shots did not harm anyone else in my neighborhood

  6. Everyday I continue to run into ignorance and every person that responded to this article displays such a lack of intelligence as well as an opinion, which you are entitled to, that is inconceivably moronic! Let’s switch the roles, a man shot your mom twice and now has the gun to her head. You come in with a gun, ask the person who intends to kill your mother to drop his weapon. He not only ignores you but he begins to point the gun towards you… now you are in fear of your life. I also have a concealed weapon permit and I carry a gun. If I doubted for one second that I wouldn’t be able to pull the trigger if I feared my life I wouldn’t be carrying it. With that said, permit or no permit, if it’s my life or yours, it’s going to be yours. You have a gun to my mother’s head, I am going to take you out! A clean record just usually means that you have never been caught! Your luck runs out one day! Play with fire and eventually you get burnt. I am so sorry for the loss of your uncle or the loss of your friend, but bad decisions have consequences. Deputies are paid to sere and protect and it is very reassuring to know that they can shoot (obviously really well) the weapon they carry. Should we put a doctor on trial every time a patient dies? Should we wound the enemy when we are at war? There are so many details that we don’t know about this shooting but even based on what the media has spun out regarding this story, let it be a message: OBEY THE LAW… a deputy/police officer enforces the law, a ticket, an arrest, jail time, death… not obeying the law will serve it to you on the plate you deserve. Too many deputies have been wounded or killed by morons on the street walking around with their bulge in their pocket. The loss unfortunate but the action by the officer necessary and absolutely justified!! I would like to thank Deputy Anthony Shea for not hesitating, for providing a superior description of the meaning to serve and protect and for doing what it takes to make our streets safe for children. Gratitude, respect and amazing skill recognition to the officer who put others lives before his own!

  7. I am agreed about saving lifes and I know if someone is pointing a gun at you or someone else, you would do everything you could to not be kill or not to let that person kill another one. But, why killing the person. He should have only wounded him as Bill Brit said…Come on…My uncle had a diploma and licence that allowed him to help the police…He was a good citizen… yes, he was, even thought this guy Mark Simmons writed in a sarcastic way and for your information and an answer to your questions..Not, the officer was not supposed to way for my uncle to drop the gun or kill someone. This officer was supposed to make him drop the gun ( I mean injured him, shoot in a leg), thats all.. Nobody has the right to take someone’s life just God. My uncle didn’t shot the man twice so you don’t know what you are talking about. If my uncle reacted this way, it wasn’t because this guy Monsalve-Correa was doing something good to him, right??? My uncle was just threatening him, I bet he didnt want to kill him or injured him, he was just holding him for the police, this is what witnesses say. My uncle was asking people to call the police…This is why I said that this guy should be investigated. Another thing, no one should feel joy over the death of another as Eric Gonzales, Mark Simmons, and “someone educated” feels. To Eric Gonzalez this is not about movies, ignorant. You wasn’t there at the time all this happened, you clearly said you were there aftermath, so you did not know anything ok and you also don’t know who was the victim here. Stop saying that my uncle was shooting everywhere, you wasnt there. Also, my uncle never shot the officer and he shot my uncle multiple times, not once, twice but multiples in the head. Thank you to Bill Britt and Bryan Britt, I dont know you but you know my uncle and as you said he was a really good man but such is life and it brings unexpected and unfair things. Jose Daniel Rodriguez – R.I.P

  8. Hey I have a Great Idea!! How about you all put yourself in the officer’s shoes, and tell me what you would do when you arrive and find a guy shooting another guy in the back execution style, and then points & aims the gun at you when you first arrive at the scene. Not sure about all the rest of you? But my life is way more important than that P.O.S’s life, that’s in the middle of executing a man in his front yard. Maybe you all should lesson to the 911 call too and hear the women describe the event first hand and see how good the officer handled the situation.

  9. I am sorry for your loss, but WAKE UP you only have Jose Rodriguez-Gallo to blame. FIRST he should have called 911, SECOND he shouldn’t have shot an unarmed man, THRID he shouldn’t have followed the victum outside to finish him off, FOURTH he should have dropped his gun when instructed by an Officer, FIFTH he shouldn’t have pointed the gun at the officer. Officers are trained to protect citizen and themselves, which doesn’t mean they tell somebody that just shot somebody to put it down or I’m going to tell you mommy. It means to take ACTION TO SAVE LIVES as Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings stated in the interview on WESH.COM (http://www.wesh.com/r/29144485/detail.html) following the shotting. Maybe Jose Rodriguez-Gallo just snapped but I’m very thankful that the officer was there before he killed anybody or went on a killing spree. I hope they give the officer a medal for saving the other man’s life. This story makes me want to thank every officer for putting there life on the line every day they go to work.

  10. While I agree with Eric Dawson’s sentiments; I wish Deputy Shea would shoot Eric Dawson for his horrible use of English. He is obviously a foreigner and English is not his primary language. I assume he is from some nation such as Carriesbitch-istan or whereismyassland.
