OCSO initiates Felony Stop, Man Gets Trespass Warning

Shortly after 6:00 AM today, November 12, 2009, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint reporting that Mr. Jerrold Gabriel had arrived on the campus of West Orange High School, 1625 Beulah Road, and implied to an employee that he was in possession of a Glock handgun.  Mr. Gabriel, who deputies were advised had been issued a trespass warning for the school grounds, reportedly left the campus as the report was being made.

At approximately 6:30 AM deputies located Mr. Gabriel’s vehicle outside a restaurant on the 13000 block of West Colonial drive and observed their suspect inside eating.  To avoid the possibility of endangering restaurant patrons deputies maintained their surveillance on Mr. Gabriel and waited for him to leave the premises before attempting to make contact with him.

The team observed Mr. Gabriel get into his vehicle and drive east on Colonial Drive.  They initiated a felony stop on their subject at the intersection of Maguire Road and West Colonial Drive where he was secured without incident.  Mr. Gabriel was searched and determined to be unarmed.  Deputies were advised that a trespass warning had not been issued for the West Orange High School campus and that he was cooperative during their encounter with him.  Since they had no charges or reason to detain him, he was allowed to leave.  Prior to his departure an administrator from West Orange High School came to the location of the felony stop and requested that Mr. Gabriel be trespassed from the high school campus.

Following the felony stop Mr. Gabriel drove to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Central Complex at 2500 West Colonial Drive.  Mr. Gabriel made contact with deputies at the Central Complex where it was decided, in the interest of the safety of the citizens who come to the complex to conduct business and agency personnel who work there, to trespass him from the facility.
