On Tuesday November 24, 2009 at approximately 1:30 pm deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call of a physical fight at 1019 Byerly Way.
Witnesses tell deputies they saw a man punching and kicking an elderly woman. When deputies arrived they observed Sophia Chasteen, 74 years, on the ground, unresponsive and bleeding. Also at the scene deputies encountered the suspect Michael Lizzi, 51 years, the man witnesses say they saw hitting and kicking Ms. Chasteen.
Lizzi is the victim’s son. He is believed to have dragged his mother down the street then kicked and punched her until she was unconscious.
Ms. Chasteen is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The suspect was arrested and is being charged with attempted 2nd degree murder.
