OCPS Scholar Scout teams will go door-to-door in search of students who have dropped out of school, issuing a personal invitation to them to return.
Modeled off the Houston, Texas Independent School District, the Expectation: Graduation program entails teams of school employees and volunteers going into communities and offering the encouragement and resources the students lack to complete their high school education.
On Saturday, September 7, OCPS Scholar Scout teams will go knocking on doors concentrating on four areas – Apopka, Colonial, Dr. Phillips and University high schools. As well, all 19 high schools in OCPS will be open from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon for students to drop in and enroll.
Following the initial contact, Expectation: Graduation entails working with students following enrollment, to develop a plan for life after high school and helping identify support systems, a statement from OCPS said.
OCPS Superintendent Barbara Jenkins and other staff are expected to be at Apopka High School to provide an update on Expectation: Graduation.
